Rehda says "drastic"

Hi guys can you imagine, Jerry had very little to say.

Can you imagine the poor man torn between standing on the developers side and the RULE OF LAW.

There is not much he can say really, as they have committed a fundamental wrong and found guilty in a court of law.

What is our Securities Commission doing ?? They should be reprimanded as a listed company committing this wrongful, irresponsible act.

LGE and lads thank you for a new MALAYSIA.

MPPP orders developer to reconstruct demolished bungalow

GEORGE TOWN: The developer responsible for demolishing a building on Lebuhraya Pykett here without permission from the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) has been ordered to restore the building at the original site.
“This will be a lesson that no one is above the law, and that all actions must go through the proper channels,” said State Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow.
“The developer will be ordered to rebuild the building under Section 27 (3) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1976,” he said.
In January, Klassik Tropika Development Sdn Bhd who was represented by architect Low Eng Hooi, was fined RM6,000 by a magistrate’s court after Low pleaded guilty to demolishing the building in July last year without council permission
The council, through the Deputy Public Prosecutor, has appealed for a heavier sentence. the offence is punishable under Section 26 (1) (b) with a fine of up to RM500,000 or a jail term of up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
Chow had said during a press conference on Jan 1, that the landowner prior to the demolition had put in an application on March 30, 2010, to the council’s One-Stop Centre to demolish the building.
However, before approval was given, the architect wrote a letter on July 26 to withdraw the application as the land had changed hands. The new landowner demolished the building and submitted an application to build 315 apartment units.

Rebuild ?? u must be mad !!

Thats what the developer is going to say haha.

The message that has to be put across to this people is that we mean business, the Penang Local council is no push over, money cannot buy MPPP.

MPPP under the guidance of DAP government practises CAT policies and all Local Council's in Malaysia shall learn from MPPP.

Bravo Penang LGE and team.

YB Chow

My neighbours are enquiring as to whether an order had been issued by
MPPP for the land owners of 20 Pykett Avenue to rebuild the illegaly
demolished bungalow pursuant to section 27 of the Town & Country
Planning Act.

We were informed at the meeting mentioned below that MPPP was going to
issue the NOTICES on the 1/2/11.

Please advise.

Dear sirs

a dialogue with the state government , led by YB CHOW and MPPPs'

They were kind enough to meet us the rakyat and share what is
happening with the abovementioned property.

The stand is clear, the small fine is going to send the wrong message
to all developers in town, especially now that we are a UNESCO
Heritage city.

MPPP informed us that action will be taken against the land owner. As
a matter of PUBLIC INTEREST as the prices of land increases, the small
fines or even monetary penalty do not work as a deterrent. All
Planning Permission for the abovementioned land is currently frozen.
Be a deterrent if planning permission for the land can be suspended
for a period of 10 years or more.

Our State government has done us proud, standing up to corporate
entities who are wealthy, powerful and well connected.

We also highlighted that this area is prone to flooding and a Traffic
Impact Assesment study must be undertaken, as this development is in
between 2 main arterial route from town to Tanjung Bungah, namely
Burma Road and Macalister Road. 2 main points in our comprehensive
objection document filed with MPPP.

What raised eyebrows was that when we were informed of the new State
policy, which may allow density of areas which has 30 units per acre
be increased to 87 units per acre. I stand corrected on this, as I do
not recall reading about this in the press. Some of the residence
highlighted that they have been living in this area for some 40 to 50
years. It has always been double storey houses in this area now an
application for planning permission is being made for 4 towers 30
storey each. This is double the height of the TNB offices on Anson
Road a commercial area.

Our question to the landowner is why not build landed, terrace houses,
semi-D's and/or bungalows, maybe out of towners don't know we in
Penang love and can pay for landed properties. A high end GATED and
GUARDED development in town, valuable !!

The RULE OF LAW must prevail.

Thank you for a new Malaysia

The residents are not idiots, we dont want development to be stopped, we want Penang to rogress for our children in the future.

What is paramount is the concept of "sustainable development" google it guys and learn, developers have to learn, all I am trying to achieve is a certain level of check and balance.

Like all things in life there must be CHECK AND BALANCE. A very simple concept .

Guan Eng: Penang’s feats due to mutual trust
By Yow Hong Chieh February 02, 2011

Lim said Penang’s success has given it the confidence to strive for greater achievements. — file pic
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 2 — Lim Guan Eng today said Penang’s “amazing” achievements under Pakatan Rakyat (PR) were due to the faith the public and the state government have in each other.
The chief minister said Penang’s list of “number one” achievements in developing the economy, boosting tourism, fighting crime, increasing living standards and preserving cultural heritage were the result of two-way engagement between the state government and the people of Penang.

“Penang can be a portrait of progress when both Penangites regains their trust in their state government and the government has faith in the wisdom of the people,” he said in his Chinese New Year greetings today.

Lim pointed out that Penang topped the investment table in 2010 with RM12.24 billion, or 26 per cent of Malaysia’s total investment that year — the largest in the state’s history.

He said Penang was the only state in Malaysia commended by Transparency International (TI) for its open tenders and governance based on competency, accountability and transparency, adding that Penang was praised for good financial management in 2008 and 2009.

The Bagan MP also said Penang came in tops in medical tourism, with two-thirds of all medical receipts originating in the state, and boasted the highest domestic and foreign air passenger growth for 2010.

Penang managed to reduce crime by 27 per cent last year, the greatest improvement of any state and was now on par with Kuala Lumpur as the most liveable city in Malaysia, he added.

Lim said Penang managed to overcome public distrust of the state government as an institution that “harms” people by ending what he termed patronage politics, cronyism and corruption prevalent under the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

He said PR has instead “shown faith” in the people by stressing that good government must do three things: listen to the people, do the people’s work and give hope to the people.

Lim added that PR has adopted a people-centric government focusing on the 3Es — enabling the people with skills and education; empowering them with rights or opportunities; and enriching the people by ensuring that the fruits of economic success can be shared.

He nonetheless cautioned that there was still much to do to combat inflation and petrol price hikes which he said unfairly burden the people, as well as “racists and extremists” who undermine public welfare by preaching hatred and violence.

“However, the successes by Penang... have given both the government and the people the self-confidence to move forward,” he said.

“Penangites can be better and succeed not because of the colour of our skin or our background or our ancestry, but through hard work and intelligence.”
