    • it is interesting to note the bungalow was in dilapidated condition, rotting away for many years and the compound overgrown with thick vegetation and the heritage group took no notice about it until a developer bought it.....

    • Why didn't the Penang Heritage Trust put this building in the heritage list if it was a heritage building ? If it was in the list, i'm sure the developer would not have bought it or perhaps a heritage entrpreneur may turn it into a heritage hotel or something. Otherwise, the concerned heritage group may like to walk their talk, buy the property at RM 34 million and turn it into a memorial/museum for Khaw family. Please note it was the Khaw descendants who sold the property to the developer.

    • Yes the building was illegally demolished, and the magistrate court had imposed a fine of RM 6,000. Too little one may say, but please note MPPP had filed the charges in the magsitrate court which only have the authority to impose fine of not more than RM 10,000. OK, let's file to the high court for higher fine you may say... RM 50 ...See more

        • 20 pykett penang illegal demolition Proper steps have to be taken. If there is a claim that the building should be listed heritage, the authorities, rightly, should investigate. After checking, the building may or may not be listed. Were there no avenues for the developer to appeal to the authorities to speed things up? Demolishing the building because the authorities took too long to decide is not the answer.

        • 20 pykett penang illegal demolition As for "increased risk" of doing business, being penalised for breaking the law should not be considered as increased risk. Just don't break the law in the first place!
